Mestre Jair Gabriel da Costa turns 76 years old

Today, Jair Gabriel da Costa, the second son of Mestre Gabriel and of Mestre Pequenina, the founders of the Beneficent Spiritist Center União do Vegetal, turns 76 years old. Elected as the General Representative Mestre for the 2024-2027 triennium, Mestre Jair is one of the eyewitnesses of this Work.

He was 9 years old when he drank the Vegetal for the first time, on the same day as his parents, and he has been present since the beginning of the creation of the União do Vegetal in the Amazon rainforest, and later in Porto Velho/RO. Jair was the first person to recognize José Gabriel da Costa as a “Mestre made by God”, and because of this he also has his place in the story of the União do Vegetal.

In an interview provided to the Center’s Department of Memory and Communication (DMC-DG), Mestre Jair said: “I didn’t arrive to the União, the União do Vegetal arrived to my home”.

Jair Gabriel da Costa has a long history of contribution towards the structuring of the UDV. He helped found three Núcleos in the União do Vegetal, having been the Representative Mestre in all of them: Núcleo Mestre Iagora, in Porto Velho (1985-1989 and then again from 2003-2006); Núcleo Salvador, in the city of Salvador/BA (1997-2000 and 2000-2003) and Núcleo Sultão das Matas, also in Salvador/BA (2017-2021 and 2021-2023). Since 1987, he has been a member of the Council of Recordation of the Teachings of Mestre Gabriel. He has also occupied the place of Central Mestre of the 4th Region, located in the state of Bahia (2006-2009). For two terms, while Mestre Francisco Herculano de Oliveira was at the head of the Center’s General Representation, (2009-2012 and 2012-2015), Mestre Jair occupied the place of General Assistant Mestre.
