Mestre Anchieta is elected General Representative Mestre of the UDV

During a Session at the General Headquarters in Brasília, Federal District, on September 12, 2026, the Electoral College elected, in the second round, Mestre José de Anchieta Torreão de Sá for the position of General Representative Mestre of the Beneficent Spiritist Center União do Vegetal. Mestre Anchieta received 44 votes and Mestre Francisco Soares de Jesus received 39 votes. In the first-round vote, Mestre Anchieta received 31 votes, Mestre Francisco de Jesus 30 votes, Mestre João Luiz Cotta Neto 16 votes e and Mestre Mário Rodrigues Filho 6 votes.

Mestre José de Anchieta Torreão de Sá is 83 years old and is originally from Campina Grande, Paraíba. Married to Counselor Aurenita Marques Torreão Sá, father of three children and grandfather of four grandchildren, he has been a part of the Cadre of Mestres of the Beneficent Spiritist Center União do Vegetal for more than half of his life and is a Permanent Member of the Council of General Representation (CRG).

José de Anchieta drank the Vegetal for the first time on May 21, 1977, and was convoked to the Instructive Body in the second half of that same year. In August 1978, he was convoked to the UDV’s Body of Counsel by Mestre Janico, who was then the General Representative Mestre. On February 10, 1981, he received the Star of Mestre from the then M. Nonato, becoming the fourth person convoked to the Cadre of Mestres in Bahia—the only state in the Northeast that had a Núcleo at that time. In 1986, he received, for the first time, the position of Representative Mestre of Núcleo Apuí. Beginning in 1988, he served his longest period in the Representation, remaining there until 1995.

From April 1996 to January 2006, Mestre Anchieta served as Central Mestre of the 4th Region, becoming the first person to hold that position after the division of Regions that created the 4th Region. From 2006 to 2012, he assumed the Representation of Núcleo Apuí for the final time. During the 2012–2015 and 2015–2018 administrations, he was nominated and elected to serve on the UDV’s Council of General Administration.
In 2018, during the General Representation of Mestre Paulo Afonso, M. Anchieta was called to serve as General Assistant Mestre for that triennium. In January 2021, he became a permanent member of the Council of General Representation. He is currently serving as General Assistant Mestre to the General Representative Mestre, M. Jair Gabriel da Costa.

Along his path, he has participated in the first trips to seek out and meet Mestre Gabriel’s family of origin in Bahia, held various administrative positions at Núcleo Apuí, worked toward self-sufficiency in the cultivation of Mariri and Chacrona in the 4th Region, and and has participated in numerous meetings with the Mestres of the Origin over the years.
